Pomegranates are very symbolic in Judaism as they represent fertility and abundance and the 613 pips are reminiscent of the 613 Mitzvoth of the Torah. The top crown of the pomegranate with the 6 points resembles the Star of David and pomegranates are among the seven species of the Land of Israel. It is said that 400 pomegranates adorned the pillars of King Solomon's Temple, while red and blue pomegranates decorated the Kohen Hagadol's (High Priest) robes. To this day, pomegranate-shaped crown- rimonim- dress the poles of Torah scrolls.
